I think I’ve been to the Hope Zoo three times including this trip. Two of which I was too small to remember much.
On the second day of my excursion I decided to go to the Hope Zoo merely to refresh my memory. I knew the general area where it was but I’ve never traveled to the zoo through the Hope Botanical Gardens.
I confidently started the journey without a search on Google for the location because I knew exactly where I was going. I took a taxi from Cross Roads to Papine and ask the driver to leave me by the Hope Gardens gate.
After walking through the park for a good ten minutes, it then hit me I had no clue where I was going. With no internet on my phone I resorted to the only thing I could think of; ask someone.
Luckily, a lady noticed that I was lost and within no time I was back on track.
There was an animal water fountain in the center of the parking area surrounded by wooden buildings that looked similar to Arawak (Indian natives) huts.
My animal interaction began from the entrance, where they had an aquarium with various aquatic creatures.
Due to the vast amount of animals they had, it would only make sense to have a map of the zoo. After deciding where I wanted to start, I headed straight to the flamingos.
I could feel the breeze on the back of my neck as it whispered in my ears while I walked along the pathway up to the flamingos. Tall palm trees tower over me to block the sun. Although I have never been to a jungle, I can imagine that the park gives you a similar experience.
Birds were harmoniously singing or even trying to talk, monkeys were swinging along their bars and I smelled freshly cut grass.
Moving on to the parrots, I came across one that refused to talk to me. After trying to convince him to talk, he finally said hello five minutes later.
I moved on the crocodile pond and nervously tried to search for them. After finally building up the courage to look over the fence, I unfortunately saw none.
There was a plethora of animals at the zoo. It took me a whole two hours to see everything. I was quite surprised they had so many and the varieties. From near to the equator to close to the north pole, they had animals representing different areas of the world.
I can only imaging what it’s like to maintain all of those animals while keeping the surrounding environment clean and odor free.
The seeing quantity and variation of birds were the highlights of my trip. The sound of birds and the trees swaying to the rhythm of the breeze made the environment just right. I think it was worth the $1,500 JMD($10 USD) I paid to visit.
If you have a great appreciation for animals or just curious to see the animals there then this attraction is one to visit. The experience was a pleasant one.
